The Death Of Our Central Air

We went away for a night and a day
It was my sister's 70th birthday
Our comfy home was left cool and alone
Only the cat sitter came by with a key on loan
Upon our return we noticed the house had turned warm
The central air had died and we became alarmed
With temperatures in the 90's we needed relief from the heat
Every fan was turned on, but oh where to sleep
It was close to midnight before we went to bed
Outside was a bit cooler so to fitful sleep we were led
We had called for a technician and the next morning he came
We needed a new air conditioner and furnace, oh what a costly shame
It would be installed the next day but in the meantime to Wendy's we drove round and about
The air conditioned library was where we finally hung out
By evening a gusty storm with cool breezes blew
The window fans were a Godsend and we slept the night through
The new air conditioner and furnace are now installed
Once more cooler temperatures we can now applaud
So you never know what can happen when you are away
Who knows what can happen to you on your next birthday.

  1. Enjoyed this poem very much; I can relate from the winter time when the heater broke...after 20+ years.
